There has been a lot of movement against the use of harmful substances, such as Chlorine Dioxide (also known as Miracle Mineral Solution) in the treatment of autism.
Fortunately the exposure in the media has been successful and more people have become aware of the dangers and risks. Special Assignment on SABC Channel 3 presented a show on the topic, but unfortunately the potential risk was not presented as strongly as one would have hoped. They also showed the use of other abusive forms of therapy, such as the Doman programme, which brought about a lot of concern from my side.
Please watch out for the following programmes during Autism Awareness month:
Saturday, 16 April 2016
Health Talk on SABC News Channel (Channel 404) will be hosting a show on Autism.
Sunday, 24 April 2016
Carte Blanche will be tackling the issues around the use of Chlorine Dioxide/MMS.
I trust that my opinion regarding the harmful effects, risks and unproven results will be communicated effectively. I am really concerned about the use of Chlorine Dioxide in children. It is an unproven, harmful substance, which causes damage to the mucosal membranes and leads to several health risks, including:
damage to the microbiome, and
potential increased risk of malignancy.
There have been no longterm studies to evaluate the effect on autistic children, but data published in the 1990s already alluded to the risk of malignancy in a normal population.
Despite all the negative issues in the press, there is a lot happening around the acceptance of autism as a neuro-diverse condition rather than a psychiatric disease/disorder. Along with the awareness of autism comes the inclusion and integration of autism into our schools, social arena and workplace and that makes me happy!
